Severe Weather Warning Issued

The Met Office have issued a couple of severe weather warnings that cover our area:

Met Office Yellow Warning for Rain has been issued across all of the East of England. This warning is valid from 0500 until 1700 tomorrow and brings a Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts, which means:

spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

there is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads

there is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services

Yellow Warning for Wind is valid from 0800 until 1800 Thursday and also brings a Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts, which means:

there is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, and some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

there is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected and some roads and bridges could close

there is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage and injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

With the ground already saturated any additional rainfall may increase surface water, ground water and river flooding already being experienced across the District.

During Thursday, we have a small risk that the south or south westerly – then later west and north westerly winds, could briefly exceed 60mph in the area covered by the Yellow Warning for Wind.

Having spoken to the Environment Agency they advise that at this point in time, they are not expecting to issue any COASTAL flood ALERTS or WARNINGS for our area, during Thursday or Friday.

For further information please monitor the Met Office website, radio and TV weather forecasts.
